BlackBerry Bold 9900 / 9930 shipping with magnetometer-friendly augmented reality app

Sick of all of the RIM news coming out around this week's BlackBerry World in Orlando? Good news, neither are we. If you were still on the fence about the Bold 9900 and 9930, here's something that might sway you back onto Research in Motion's side of the Canadian border. RIM teamed up with Wikitude to bring their augmented reality solution to BlackBerry OS 7 and the BlackBerry Bold 9900 to show off the new magnetometer in the device. In this partnership with RIM they are preloading their Wikitude World Browser on the BlackBerry Bold 9900.

Their app offers more than 150 million geo-referenced places from over 1,000 content sources like Wikipedia, Twitter, and YouTube. It also integrates with BBM to meet BBM contacts in Augmented Reality. That last feature is what really sounds cool!Wikitude is an early pioneer in mobile augmented reality (AR) and the creator of the internationally renowned Wikitude World Browser for iOS, Android, Symbian, Bada and now BlackBerry devices. Wikitude has been voted “Best Augmented Reality Browser” by the readers of Augmented Planet for both 2009 and 2010. Mobilizy engages in the research and in-house development of location-based services and augmented reality experiences for smart-phones.
